Facing our Fears
Fear is sneaky and all consuming – fear ties our soul into knots – fear takes a firm grip on our heart & squeezes- fear fills us with self-doubt & loathing – we find excuses to harbour it – to keep it safely inside us – we do not acknowledge it – it is like a crazy-maker friend we are too ashamed to expose to the world….
Instead of embracing our fear. Understanding that it is normal and natural and, when acknowledged and understood, can be mastered… we give into it and it masters us.
For some of us fear is so deeply entrenched that we are unaware of how passionately it controls our every waking moment.
Fear is not something to be ashamed of. There is not a single person on this planet who has not experienced fear when stepping outside of their comfort zone. It is when we allow fear to become an inhibiting factor in our lives that we know we have allowed fear to master us instead of us taking control of it.
Try, instead, to embrace fear as a useful tool that keeps us in check. Think….. Fear is Good – Fear is Wholesome – Fear is Necessary!
Fear should not be self-inhibiting. Fear should not be used as an excuse to avoid issues or not to experience life to our fullest capability.
Think rather of it as a safety net. Without it we would head off on a whim, uncontrolled. To experience fear is to be alive. To know we are about to embark on an adventure – no matter how small or mundane.
For every time we take on something that makes our heart beat faster – our hands to grow sweaty – our legs to turn to jelly -we should rejoice that we are stepping outside of the mundane in our lives and taking on, instead, something that is currently bigger than us.
And, when having done so, to experience the joy and satisfaction of having achieved a victory. To know that we are on our way to getting back control of our life… instead of life controlling us.
For, is it not better to live a life by design rather than by default?
